Weather Update : Many Indian states witnessed maximum temperatures ranging between 42-45 degrees Celsius on Saturday, with the intensity of the heat wave declining in parts of eastern and southern peninsular India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted respite from the scorching heat in many Indian states from May 5 to May 9.
The temperature goes above 40 degrees Celsius
On Saturday, maximum temperatures remained between 40 degrees Celsius to 45 degrees Celsius over parts of Telangana, Vidarbha, Rayalaseema and Interior Odisha, North Interior Karnataka, Marathwada, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra and East Uttar Pradesh.
IMD’s rain forecast
According to the weather office, light to moderate rain and storm has been predicted in Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand between May 5 and 9.
Light to moderate rain is expected over East Uttar Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh during this period.
Hospitals are seeing a rise in heat-related cases
There is a possibility of light to moderate rain in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Karnataka between May 6 and May 9.
Yellow alert in Kerala
IMD has issued yellow alert for 12 out of 14 districts of Kerala due to possibility of high temperature and humidity till May 6. IMD said the maximum temperature in Palakkad is likely to be around 39 degrees Celsius, 38 degrees. By Monday (May 6), temperatures in Kollam, Thrissur and Kozhikode were around 37 degrees Celsius in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Kannur districts and 36 degrees Celsius in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts.
Waves can be seen in Mumbai
Mumbai will see “bouncy waves” from 11.30 am on Saturday to 11.30 pm on Sunday. During this period the height of the waves will increase by 0.5 to 1.5 meters.
